Free class: “6-mark questions in A Level chemistry” – February half term 2024

You can watch the recording of the live class below. To make sure you don’t miss another one, make sure you are signed up to the mailing list. I’ll be giving more over Easter and half term, most likely related to organic chemistry, practical questions and calculations.

You can download my extended response question practice booklet for OCR A, AQA or Edexcel A Level chemistry below – if you’re reading this before February 19th, make sure to enter the discount code mentioned in the video to get a 24% discount!

Just a quick post to announce my free online class taking place this February half term, which will be looking at ‘extended response’ questions in A Level chemistry.

Extended response questions are also referred to as ‘level of response’ and also ‘six markers’, although at A Level they can easily stretch to more than 6 marks!

Even though longer response questions can make students panic, for A Level chemistry they can often be quite predictable and there are some key techniques we can use to help break them down, structure our answers and maximise the marks we get from them. To help students with this, I’m giving a free live online class during February half term.

Who is the class suitable for?

All exam boards have level of response questions and there are a lot of similarities, so it doesn’t matter whether you are doing AQA, OCR, Edexcel or another board – you will find something useful. Because we will cover content from a wide range of topics, the class is more suited to year 13 students but year 12 students are welcome to join as much of it will apply to you as well. Teachers and tutors are welcome to sign up for access to the class recording.

What if I can’t attend the live class?

The live class will be on 5.30pm on Monday 12th February and will be limited in numbers to ensure students have the chance to ask questions. If you can’t make this time, you can opt to sign up for the class recording – please use the same form for either:

What topics will you be covering?

The class will be looking at tips and techniques for dealing with extended response questions, including how we use chemical vocabulary and structure answers. There will be lots of examples from various areas of the A Level chemistry syllabus.

We won’t be covering long calculations in this class – if you want more hints on chemical calculations, take a look at class from October half term on this, or at my online calculations course.

If you’re looking for more specific help with particular A Level topics and would like to join one of my group classes, or access recordings for the group class course, you can find out what is available here.
