A Level Chemistry Masterclasses: Year 12 Classes start September 15th!

This is an update to let you know that Year 12 A Level Chemistry group classes will be starting September 15th 2025. You can find out more about the other options available, including year 13 classes, on my group tuition page.

Are you working hard, but feeling overwhelmed and not sure how to push your grade up to the next level?

A Level chemistry is a challenging subject, but that doesn’t mean all students need the intense support of one to one tuition.

In my 20 years of experience as a teacher, tutor and examiner, these are the key ingredients needed to reach the higher grades:

  • A clear programme of independent retrieval practice and consolidation – students need to know what they need to know, and how to make learning stick
  • More specialised support for challenging concepts, applications and exam technique, with clear examples and the opportunity to ask questions in a supportive environment
  • Regular assessment – the opportunity to practice skills and get individual, meaningful feedback

My A Level Chemistry Masterclass programme ensures students have access to all the support they need, while developing the confidence and independence to tackle this challenging but rewarding subject head-on.

What’s included in the programme?

  • A collection of online resources including practice questions, topic checklists, quizzes and videos to cover key concepts
  • A structured programme for revision that ensures the most important concepts don’t get forgotten
  • Weekly classes in small groups (six students maximum) with the opportunity to check understanding, ask questions and go deeper into more challenging examples
  •  Monthly assessment exercises with personalised private feedback to tell you how to improve, not just to give you a grade

Because class sizes are small, please email me: claire@ckchemistry.co.uk so I can make sure the programme will suit you and get you booked on. You’ll find some FAQs overleaf, but I’m happy to chat over the phone or video call if you have any specific queries.

How do you decide what to cover each week?
I design the classes to fit the students, which is an advantage of having a small group. The lessons will also be suitable for all major exam boards (AQA, OCR A and Edexcel) You can see an outline schedule for the first half term below:

Class DateTopic
September 15thChemical calculations 1 – using chemical equations
September 22ndAtomic structure and ionisation energy
September 29thChemical calculations 2 – titrations and calculations from experiments
October 6thReview week – practice questions, mini assessment and feedback
October 13thBonding part 1 – bridging the gap from GCSE
October 20thReactions and equations: acid-base and redox
October 27thReview week – practice questions, mini assessment and feedback*
November 3rdBonding part 2 – shapes of molecules and intermolecular forces*

*The review week is earlier in October due to half term – we can change this around according to what students prefer.

Before October half term, I will send each student a questionnaire to find out which  topics they’ve covered in school and their personal priorities for revision – this will be how we decide class topics from that point onwards.

What time are the classes?

Year 12 classes are on Monday evenings, starting from September 15th. Every fourth week will be a ‘review week’ where students complete independent consolidation and a mini-assessment, for which they will receive personalised feedback. The class runs from 6.15pm to 7.30pm.

How are the classes delivered?

All classes are delivered on Zoom. Students will have a secure invitation link each week. They will also be recorded and students will be able to access the recordings for the rest of the school year.

Do I need to bring or prepare anything in advance?

All students will have access to notes and practice questions each week via the website – it is strongly recommended that you work through these before the class. The materials will recap concepts you should have already covered in class so that when we cover more challenging examples together you will already have revised the ‘basics’.

Who teaches the classes?

All classes are run by me, Claire C-K. I’m a fully qualified chemistry teacher with over 20 years of experience as a teacher, tutor and A Level examiner. I’ve also worked with exam boards and universities as a resource developer and teacher trainer, so you’re in great hands!

How much is it, how do I book and what if I change my mind?

The cost per student is £110 per month, invoiced and payable by the 1st of each month. This includes just under 4 hours of lessons (3 x 75 minutes), online materials and the assessment and personalised feedback. If you cancel part way through the month, you will be refunded pro-rata. Since lessons will be recorded, individual lessons will not be refunded if a student cannot attend.

What happens in the review week?

Every fourth week there will be no live group class. Instead, you get a chance to catch up with materials and you’ll be given an assessment task to complete under ‘exam conditions’. The assessment will take about 45 minutes and will be easy to write and submit.
I will then mark the assessment and provide written feedback, advice for further revision and also a recording of feedback with more explanation for the questions you need the most help with.
