This is an intensive one day course for AQA A Level chemistry featuring 4 live sessions (6 hours) of focused exam prep. Each session will be based on the themes detailed below and throughout the sessions students will be able to ask and answer questions.

Students will also receive full access to over 20 hours of online A Level masterclasses (recorded sessions) along with topic checklists and practice questions – you will be able to access these as soon as you book on the course, and can also ask questions at any time using the online platform.

Live sessions will cover chemical calculations, organic synthesis and analysis, practical techniques and synoptic chemistry as well as essential exam technique.

Description

This is an intensive one day course for AQA A Level chemistry featuring 4 live sessions (6 hours) of focused exam prep. Each session will be based on the themes detailed below and throughout the sessions students will be able to ask and answer questions.

Live sessions (Thursday 30th May 2024, 9am-5pm):

Session 1: Chemical calculations

This session will focus on challenging calculation questions, with a particular focus on titrations (including redox and back titrations), ideal gas equation and equilibria calculations (Kc, Kp and calculations involving weak acids and buffers).

Session 2: Organic synthesis and analysis

In this session we will cover the most important aspects of organic synthesis and analysis – how to work through synthesis routes, important reagents and conditions as well as combined analysis questions including information from mass spec, infrared and NMR.

Session 3: Practical questions

In this session we will go through the most important core practicals with examples of the types of questions asked. We will look at rates of reaction, enthalpy changes and organic purification techniques as well as uncertainty and percentage error calculations.

Session 4: Synoptic chemistry and exam technique

In this session we will look at the ways different topics can link together in synoptic chemistry – in particular extended response questions that relate to periodicity, bonding and structure, and inorganic analysis techniques such as transition metal reactions and testing for ions. We will discuss important exam techniques and next steps to make the most of the remaining revision time.
